國家圖書館為我國出版品之法定送存圖書館，收藏當代國內出版品最為完備，除了典藏善本古籍、臺灣出版書刊、政府出版品、博碩士論文為特色，也多方徵集海內外漢學研究資源及名家手稿等各式資料，並成立全國數位中心，擴充數位館藏與建立數位閱讀平台提供服務。另一方面則積極與國外圖書館、研究機構進行出版品交換贈送、圖書資料傳遞服務、辦理國際會議、拓展臺灣與漢學研究資源、建置中文古籍聯合目錄，致力推動臺灣與漢學研究，強化國際交流，是研究臺灣政經社會與學術科技發展的圖書資源重鎮。

The National Central Library (NCL) is the legal depository for all national publications in Taiwan. It has a complete collection of Taiwan’s contemporary publications and is most noted for its many rare and ancient Chinese books, other books, periodicals, government publications, and dissertations. In addition, the NCL also collects information on important modern publications on Chinese studies, both domestic and international, and well-known authors’ manuscripts. The NCL has actively worked with foreign libraries and research institutions in promoting cooperation. Such efforts include publication exchanges, document delivery services, organizing conferences, enriching the resources on Taiwan studies and Chinese studies, establishing the Database of the Union Catalog of Rare Books, promoting Taiwan studies and Chinese studies and international exchanges. The NCL is an important resource center for researching Taiwan’s economy, society, academic, and technological developments.
