2020Taipei International Book Exhibition Postponed Until May 7th- 12th

2020年01月30日 /

The Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, and the Taipei Book Fair Foundation have reached the conclusion to postpone the 28th Taipei International Book Exhibition to May 7th-12th in consideration of the number of attendees and the quality of the exhibition. All exhibitors are to be located at the same location in Hall 1, Taipei World Trade Center. Further details regarding rearrangements shall follow shortly within this week.

Regarding the upcoming Taipei International Book Exhibition that is originally to be held Feb 4th-9th, Taiwanese publishers have expressed their concerns about the coronavirus affecting readers’ attendance and participation. Publishers have suggested the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, to postpone the book fair. Therefore, the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, invited Taipei Book Fair Foundation, exhibitors’ representatives, and publishers associations to meet for risk assessments and effectiveness evaluations on Jan. 29th.

After comprehensive consideration, the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan explains, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has not restricted meetings of conventions or assemblies; however, according to the results of telephone surveys and the general opinions of exhibitors, it is an overall consensus that the effectiveness will not meet the expectation should the book fair be held on schedule. First of all, it is foreseeable that the number of visitors are bound to decline drastically. Also, parents are unlikely to bring their children to the fairground as the Children’s Area will be held in Hall 1 for the first time. Furthermore, international exhibitors as well as authors have gradually canceled their book fair schedule. Thus, the Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, and the Taipei Book Fair Foundation have reached the conclusion to postpone the 28th Taipei International Book Exhibition to May 7th-12th in consideration of the effectiveness and quality of the exhibition, aiming to bring to exhibitors and readers alike a better book fair experience.

The Ministry of Culture, Taiwan, and the Taipei Book Fair Foundation will assemble a specialized team to ensure the rights and interests of all exhibitors and readers. This specialized team shall also organize complete contingency measures for the postponement.

For all domestic and international exhibitors in 2020 Taipei International Book Exhibition, all shall remain in the same location at Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1 during May.
