Futami-Shobo Publishing Co.,Ltd

Founded in Chiyoda Ward in 1941, our company got off to a good start, translating and publishing French literature, but the war reduced everything to ashes. After the war, we re-launched and published a photo book called "Human Age Zero," which immediately became a bestseller, riding on the baby boom of the time. A memoir by a former Japanese soldier, "Guam Island" (1960), was published as "The Emperor's Last Soldier" in six countries overseas, including the UK, France, West Germany, and the Netherlands, and our first novel, "Women's War," won the Naoki Prize, resulting in a string of bestsellers. After that, we continued to publish ambitious works such as "Madame Emmanuelle" and "Collection of Georges Bataille's Works," and continued to publish bestsellers such as "Manga Japanese Folk Tales," "Detective Columbo Series," "Book of Riddles," and "Supercars," rapidly expanding the range of genres we published. Meanwhile, with the arrival of the Famicom boom, we were one of the first to release "strategy guides" to the world, sparking an unprecedented boom. They also produce other works on supernatural phenomena, mysterious phenomena, UFOs, near-future war simulation novels, translated love romance novels for women, and adult novels for men called "Madonna Mate," and their BL genre "Charade" is celebrating its 30th anniversary. In recent years, their quiz book on difficult kanji characters has sold over 1 million copies, and practical books that reflect the current social climate, such as "Writing Your Own Will," "An Ending Note for When the Emergencies Begins," and "Brain Training Drills for Elderly Drivers," have become long-running bestsellers. They also publish books that are always in the spotlight, such as the best-selling book by celebrity Matsubara Tanishi, "Ghost Stories from Haunted Properties: Scary Floor Plans," which has been made into a movie.
