Fayard

Librairie Arthème Fayard was founded in 1857 with the goal of making books accessible to everyone. As well as different historical works, it published popular novels. Arthème Fayard, its founder, died in 1895. His successor of the same name developed classic and contemporary editions at discount prices, published foreign literature, created and directed a series of detective novels up until his death in 1936. In 1956, Fayard became a limited liability company and in 1958, a subsidiary of Hachette. Today its catalogue includes history, science, French and foreign classics and contemporary literature, music, and human science series, as well as current events books.
