Polish Cuisine at TIBE

1 February 2023 /

Polish cuisine is characterised by a specific type of food, the flavours of which has been influenced by the turbulent history of our nation. It is possible to find German, Russian, Tatar, or Jewish influences. Polish cuisine is varied, relatively high in fat, and rich in flour products.

Some of the most typical dishes include:

Bigos (Polish Hunter’s Stew) – a traditional one-pot dish. Consists of cooked sauerkraut and various pieces of meat (preferably game). Nowadays, it is mainly cooked in winter or for special occasions.

Pierogi – a piece of dough formed into a triangle or semicircle with a savoury or sweet (for example, fruit) filling. According to legend, pierogi found their way to Poland thanks to a monk who, travelling through Ruthenia with only flour, cabbage, and mushrooms at his disposal, combined everything into one, thus giving rise to pierogi.

At our stand, dishes will be prepared by Bartosz Hendzel and his wife Evie - owners of the Polish restaurant Wanderlust Beans Project, operating in Taichung since 2019. More about Polish cuisine will be told by Mila & Shihkai (@meetworldhome) - internet creators, YouTubers, and authors of several books related to Poland. They write texts and create videos bringing Polish culture closer to Taiwanese people.
