Founded in 1940, we have a tremendously varied backlist that spans literature and the humanities, the social and natural sciences, and the fine arts, etc. In addition to publishing individual books in these categories, the company’s imprints include several compact paperback libraries. In collaboration with Mitaka City, we are co-hosting the Osamu Dazai Prize, a newcomer award for novels. In any given year, we bring out about 320 new titles.
