Bungeishunju Ltd. has been a powerhouse in the Japanese publishing industry since its founding in 1923 by the author Kan Kikuchi. Its flagship publication has been the respected monthly Bungeishunju, although the company now publishes a wide variety of other magazines. Its book-publishing arm produces about 400 titles each year, includes various genres of fiction and non-fiction. Bungeishunju supervises Japan’s most prestigious literary accolades, the Akutagawa and Naoki Prizes, and in so doing has consistently introduced an array of new authors to the Japanese reading public.
